TikTok is one of those platforms that you either love or hate, but either way, you have to admit that it’s important to the music business in so many ways. In fact,  84% of songs that reached the Billboard 200 list in 2024 gained traction on TikTok first, and U.S. users are 74% more likely to discover and share music in the app. Now the service is launching its new “TikTok for Artists” platform to help artists and bands manage their in-app visibility and to provide data tools to help them enhance presence.

The platform will allow artists to analyze viewing trends, examine engagement, learn from success stories, and more closely evaluate followers to better understand their likes and desires. It also allows artists to create pre-release campaigns that can be launched from the platform itself.

This lets artists tease songs before they are released, and one of its best features is that fans can pre-save songs to Spotify and Apple Music. This will allow you to sort through some of the TikTok hype in order to determine some real-world numbers.

The platform also allows artists to pin videos, which are then highlighted and show up at the top of the music pages. Personal storytelling is also supported with a Behind the Song feature.

Speaking of data and analytics, TikTok says, TikTok for Artists provides daily-updated analytics dashboards which display a wealth of detailed, actionable data about the performance of an artist’s music and posts on TikTok, and comprehensive insights into how the community is engaging with the artist and their music on the platform. The tool has been designed with the goal of helping artists and their teams boost fan engagement, optimize their promotional strategies and inform content creation on TikTok.”

The new platform is only available to TikTok certified artists, but it does allow access for management and label teams.

When I saw this announcement my first thought was, “It’s about time.” Artists, managers, and labels have been asking for these tools for a long time. Better late than never though, as the new platform is worth checking out to see if it fits your marketing.
