Gen Alpha has no interest in Rock Music, says new survey
Music’s youngest consumers Gen Alpha has no interest in rock, alt-rock, hard rock, classic rock or any of rock ‘n roll’s many permeations, according to a new survey.
Generation Alpha (Gen Alpha) refers to those born roughly between 2010 and 2024. They are the first generation to be entirely born in the 21st century and are characterized as digital natives.
Zigazoo “the world’s largest social media platform for kids” polled 4500+ Gen Alpha users on their favorite music genres.
It would be interesting to know more about the average age of those actually responding. But overall the poll offers a fresh look art what’s resonating with the next generation of listeners. The results highlight that Gen Alpha has no interest in rock music.
Pop: 31%
K-Pop: 25%
Christian: 17%
Country: 17%
Hip-Hop: 10%
With a combined total of 56% Pop and K-Pop dominate. But the popularity of Christian and Country music is also significant.
Tastes can change as you get older. But 0% interest in Rock and Hip-Hop down at 10% should be a cause for concern for those creating and working in these genres.
