iTunes, Apple Music Illegal In UK After Court Ruling

In the US, copies for personal use are permitted, but UK courts have taken a different view.

Apple could find itself liable for significant damages after a recent UK court ruling.  The Intellectual Property Office today stated that, based on the ruling, ripping a CD in iTunes is not a permitted use nor is backing up music from a computer.

iTunes runs afoul of the law by enabling CD ripping (see below). But Apple Music and iTunes Match are not immune from prosecution since both back up music in the cloud.
