Jacobs Media's annual Tech Survey, described as the "largest radio tech survey ever conducted," also gives insight into self-reported media usage across a range of devices, digital options and broadcast services. Particularly noteworthy was an overall slip in both AM/FM radio and TV audiences as well as some interesting observations regarding Pandora.
As Audio4cast noted earlier this month regarding the report:
"In the big picture of how media stack up in terms of usage, there’s been a pretty big shift, with people using AM/FM an hour or more a day dropping below 90% into fourth place behind TV since the release of last year’s results. AM/FM fell 3% in a year, which is a shift that is hard to ignore. Meanwhile, usage of Internet radio weekly or more jumped 7% year to year to 45%."
Techsurvey9 also points to such ongoing developments as the use of both connected iPods and smartphones as well as "digital dashboards" in autos. Pandora is dubbed "king of radio mobile apps." Though Pandora is king, an increasing number of listeners are finding commercials a "major drawback" since last year.
