The music industry's old guard has extended the run of one it's staunchest champions,.Neal Portnow, the president and CEO of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, has had his contract extended through 2019. Portnow, born in 1948, became president of NARAS in 2002. He was formerly a VP at Jive Records.
NARAS overseas the annual Grammy Awards.
"Neil is a dynamic leader whose collaborative, inclusive spirit and extensive experience and relationships across all aspects of music and entertainment have delivered dramatic financial, cultural, and philanthropic benefits to the Recording Academy and its constituents," chair of the board Christine Albert told Billboard.
