Merlin is slashing the administration fees it charges independent labels by 25 – 50%. Members were informed yesterday via an email obtained by Hypebot. The cuts are effective as of July 1st. Merlin's old and new rates are as follows:

Reductions In Merlin Administration Fees:

  • On
    commercial deals – commencing with all usage as of July 1, 2013, Administration
    Fees have been reduced as follows: 

    • On Spotify – from 4% to 3%, (from 5.2% to 3.9% for Merlin Members who
      are not members of local Independent Trade Associations)
    • On all other deals – from 6% to 3% (from 7.8% to 3.9% for Merlin Members
      who are not members of local Independent Trade Associations).

The cuts represent a reduction of 25% on current Spotify Administration
Fees, and 50% on fees for all other commercial deals. "Due to the cost and nature of obtaining settlements and recoveries from
infringing services," Merlin told members in the email, "Administration Fees relating to those activities remain
unchanged."
