A redesigned and refocused MySpace has launched it's first new update aimed at helping the musicians and other creators that drive traffic the site. 'Portfolio' anables users to feature content prominently within their profile. For musicians, that could be a new song, video, tour poster or photo shoot.
After users create a portfolio in their profile they can select one piece of content to feature along with up to 30 smaller ones. Content can included mixes, songs, albums, goraphics, videos and GIFs. These selections can be changed at any time.
Fans can also create a potfolio of things they discovered on MySpace. The company says that 15,000+ users have already activated the Portfolio feature on their profiles. More details here.
Artists To Be Featured In TV CampaignAlongside Portfolio, MySpace has launched a TV/video ad campaing to showcase some of the artists on the site. Featured first are Portugal. The Man, Amadéus and Ace Da God.
“Myspace is committed to empowering the creative community,” April Thrun, MySpace’s VP Of Marketing told Billboard, “and within that DNA there’s the original social network, but also what’s evolved organically in the creative ecosystem. We’ve been getting a lot of feedback from artists since we launched in June, and Portfolio is a way for us to make some of that feedback actionable.”
