OpenPlay has introduced a new initiative called OpenPlay Connect App Exchange, a tech services marketplace for the music industry. The new platform brings together a range of app-based services that labels, publishers, and distributors can browse and integrate directly into their workflows.
The idea is to make it easier for music companies to discover and adopt specialized tools across the industry. Early partners participating in the launch include companies such as: Audioshake, BeatBread, Beatdapp, LyricFind, Muserk, Musixmatch, and Pex, among others.
Rather than building every tool itself, OpenPlay is framing the App Exchange as a shared infrastructure layer connecting rightsholders with third-party service providers. By acting as a centralized integration point, the company hopes to simplify the way music businesses connect with the growing ecosystem of music-tech tools.
What Is OpenPlay?
Behind every song released to streaming platforms sits a complex infrastructure of data, rights ownership, assets, and delivery systems. While listeners simply press play, music companies must manage massive catalogs of recordings, metadata, and licensing information. That’s where OpenPlay comes in.
OpenPlay is a music industry platform designed to help labels, distributors, and publishers manage catalog data, rights information, and release workflows in one centralized system. The platform acts as a hub where music companies can organize the assets and metadata that power their catalogs — from audio files and artwork to songwriter credits and ownership splits.
At its core, OpenPlay functions as a catalog and asset management system built specifically for the music industry. Instead of juggling spreadsheets, email chains, and disconnected tools, teams can manage releases and metadata in one place. This helps ensure that the information attached to recordings (artist names, credits, rights ownership, and release details) remains consistent across the ecosystem.
Because songs can appear across dozens of streaming platforms and social media services worldwide, inaccurate or fragmented metadata can lead to royalty errors, delayed payments, and missed discovery opportunities.
Beyond catalog management, OpenPlay also offers distribution and delivery infrastructure through tools like OpenPlay Reach, allowing music companies to send recordings and video assets directly to digital service providers while maintaining control over their catalog data.
