‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ Tops Weekend Box Office

Preposterous giant robots battling equally preposterous giant monsters proved to be the key to finally pushing Marvel-Disney’s ‘Black Panther’ from its lofty position atop the worldwide box office this weekend. Universal’s sci-fi sequel “Pacific Rim:” Uprising” debuted to a comfortable $150.5M in revenue worldwide over the weekend, according to estimates compiled by comScore.In domestic theaters however, Pacific Rim generated just $28.0M in its debut weekend, a smaller take than its predecessor, the Guillermo Del Toro-helmed “Pacific Rim” which generated $37 million when it hit the theaters in 2013.
