Pandora Takes On Spotify With Free Ad-Supported On Demand Streaming Music Service

Pandora is unlocking free access to its Premium on demand streaming service after they watch a 15 second video ad. Users gain access to a Pandora Premium listening session which can include a song, album or playlist. With the exception of YouTube, this offers consumers the closest alternative to Spotify's popular free ad-supported streaming music service.

Pandora will now offer an ad-supported on-demand music streaming listening experience after viewing a 15-second video ad. When listeners search for a specific song, album or playlist, or have one recommended to them by Pandora, they’ll have the option to view the ad in order to unlock a Pandora Premium listening session.

This new option is available on Pandora's mobile and tablet apps. Pandora is also encouraging artists to use this new service to provide fans with direct links to their songs. “Our ad-supported listeners’ top request has consistently been the ability to directly play the specific songs, albums, or playlists they want,” said Roger Lynch, President & CEO, Pandora. “These new features address that need by marrying rewards-based advertising with the best-in-class on-demand experience we’ve created with Pandora Premium."
