Sony’s Connect download service has only captured a paltry 3% of the download market and now division head Phil Wiser is jumoing from the sinking ship. Connect shot itself in the foot at launch by trying to introduce its own propriatary digital rights software incompatible with other devices. And unlike Apple, Sony failed to deliver an elegeant, hip and compatible companion device like the iPod.
These failures underscore Sony’s ongoing problems in a music space it once dominated with the incredibly successful Walkman line.
