Two of the internets hottest trends – social and location – are combined with music in two apps that offer a glimpse of where ubiquitous smartphones may take music discovery and sharing. Soundtrckr bills itself as aa free music service that blends internet radio, social networking and location-awareness. Users can:
- listen to 10 million songs
- create & share personal radio stations.
- play music with friends in real time.
- find music playing nearby
- connect with friends via chat
Soundtrkr just shipped version 2.7 off to iTunes and it should go live in 1-2 days. The upgrade adds more social features, lyrics to 5 million songs and artist bios. The app also has Windows Phone 7 and Ovi Noki versions.
Newer entry, Songasaurus works by syncing meta-information from your Apple device to a central server, then allowing users to connect with friends (finding them by name or location), and showing which songs, albums and artists are most common in your network.
