Spotify is adding real-time lyrics synched to music in 26 markets globally today.
Lyrics provider Musixmatch is powering the launch. The company was behind several public beta tests with Spotify last year. Spotify in Japan has had lyrics for more than a year sourced from a different provider.
These markets are part of today’s launch: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, El Salvador, Uruguay, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Spotify’s delay in launching real-time lyrics in these countries and beyond are due to difficulties in lyrics licensing.
