Spotify Now Has 60M Users, 15M Paid Subscribers

Spotify announced this morning that it now has 15 million paid subscribers and 60 million active users worldwide. The milestone comes as Spotify and its competitors jockey for position in an increasingly crowded streaming music sector; and ahead of the full integration of Beats Music into the Apple and iTunes ecosystem. (We hear that's likely to happen early this summer.)

In May 2014, Spotify had 10 million paying subscribers and more than 40 million active users.  More recently, the company claimed 50 million active users, but had not updated paid user stats in the last 7 months.

"We had an amazing 2014 at Spotify and owe it all to you, the music fans who listen, discover, share and celebrate music and artists with us every day of the year," the music streamer said in a blog post. "And before 2014 turned into 2015, we reached 15 million subscribers and 60 million active users!
