Survey Shows Portable Players Doing Major Damage To Radio

A new study by radio consultancy Jacobs Media confirms what broadcasters have feared: iPod/MP3 players are a large and growing threat.  From the 2005 to 2006 iPod/MP3 ownership has risen sharply, from 21%-35% – which translates to 67% growth year-to-year. No other media activity has shown anywhere near that type of dramatic increase according to the study and time spent listening to the radio is the big looser.

Rock radio is the biggest loosee with more than 50% active rock fans owning and using a portable player.  22% say they also download an listen to podcasts.
