The FCC has released new numbers show 30,367 total licensed broadcast outlets (AM/FM/TV) in the United states. That includes 4728 AM stations, 6613 commercial FM stations and 3989 educational/non-profit FM stations. But with all of the options available online and via portable devices, how many still matter to you?
For me it's NPR, which admittedly is mostly nationally programmed and which I often listen to online, and 101.5 FM The Music Place, an all too rare locally owned, locally programmed commercial AAA and Americana radio station in Roanoke, Virginia (listen online).
