Playlists on Spotify and elsewhere are the new radio – curated content from a trusted source. As their importance has grown, efforts  - both legititmate and not so – to influence creators (aka playlisters) have grown, as have calls for legitmate compensation.

Should Spotify and others compensate successful playlisters? We're not talking pay to play, but rather legitimate compensation based on overall plays or audience size.

They are providing a service and it could reduce payolla.  Or are we just democratizing music discovery yet again, and better served by working to keep playlisting free of money all together?
