If you dream of working at a major record label or music publisher, you may find this new analysis both encouraging and incredibly daunting.

The three major music groups – Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group – have a combined 27,292 employees worldwide. That’s up about 1000 positions over the previous year, but still a tiny number compared to the more than 200 million employed in the U.S. alone last year.

Still not deterred?

On average, each of these 27,292 staffers generates between $900,000 and $1 million in annual revenue for their employers.

These stats come from an impressive data analysis of the majors done by Music Business Worldwide.
