While Chinese cinema's Wolf Warriors 2 ran rough shod over international markets, Chris Nolan's/Warner Bros. "Dunkirk" took top honors in North America. Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Fionn Whitehead, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, and Harry Styles among others, "Dunkirk" portrays the desperate evacuation of the British Expeditionary Forces from the French coastal town of Dunkirk at the start of World War 2.
The film has been lauded by the critical press, and already generated an estimated 234 million in revenue since release. While in its second week domestically, "Dunkirk" handily bested Sony's "Emoji Movie" an animated comedy that brings to life those irritating little text faces on the big screen. I mean, who wouldn't want to sit through an hour and a half of that?"Emoji" features the voice acting chops of TJ Miller, Anna Faris, Maya Rudolph and James Corden. So far, the movie failed to resonate with critics, who roundly panned it and with audiences, only generating an estimated $25.6M on its debut weekend. The top 12 worldwide weekend box office estimates, listed in descending order, per data collected as of Sunday, July 30, are below.Wolf Warrior 2 – Multiple – $125.7M Dunkirk – Warner Bros. – $73.7M Despicable Me 3 – Universal – $43.8M Spider-Man: Homecoming – Sony – $33.1M War For The Planet Of The Apes – 20th Century Fox – $30.9MEmoji Movie, The – Sony – $25.6M Founding Of An Army, The – Multiple Chinese Distributors – $24.0M Battleship Island, The – CJ Entertainment – $22.5M Girls Trip – Universal – $22.1M Atomic Blonde – Multiple – $21.6M Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets – Multiple – $20.5M Baby Driver – Sony – $12.4MThe top 12 domestic weekend box office estimates, listed in descending order, per data collected as of Sunday, July 30, are below.Dunkirk – Warner Bros. – $28.1M Emoji Movie, The – Sony – $25.6M Girls Trip – Universal – $20.1M Atomic Blonde – Focus Features – $18.6M Spider-Man: Homecoming – Sony – $13.4M War For The Planet Of The Apes – 20th Century Fox – $10.4M Despicable Me 3 – Universal – $7.7M Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Plan – STX Entertainment – $6.8M Baby Driver – Sony – $4.0M Wonder Woman – Warner Bros. – $3.5M Big Sick, The – Lionsgate – $3.4M Cars 3 – Disney – $1MRelated articles
