Freeform alternative online radio stalwart WOXY.com stopped broadcasting yesterday just 6 months after the station relocated from Ohio to Austin. Launched in 1983 as WOXY-FM at 97.7 FM in Oxford, Ohio, "The Future of Rock & Roll" became one of the first commercial radio stations in the United States to completely transition from terrestrial FM radio to broadcasting solely on the net.
LA based Future Sound which bought the station from Lala last year said they had run out of funding. "We've been looking at partnerships and the possibility of a sale, and
had an eleventh-hour deal that fell through on Sunday," partner John Mascarenhas told Austin 360 . "There are a lot of people fighting for a
little bit of money."
