In his RAIN online newsletter Kurt Hanson has written a summary of a keynote address at last week’s National Association Of Broadcaster’s convention by Wall Street Journal tech columnist Walt Mosseberg. The instructive speech’s bullet points include:
- Media have to evolve when new competitors arrive.
"Internet" won’t be an "activity" in a few years – it will be like the electric grid all around you delivered and used by a multi-tude of devices in almost infinite ways. - The internet is coming to your car and wide variety of portable devices.
- Of all industries record companies are coping the worst. He called most DRM and other restrictions "absurd".
- Radio needs to use new tools to beat the iPod. “Your job is not just to string together a bunch of songs in a row, but to put on exciting new programming to attract new listeners and beat the iPod,” he told broadcasters.
