First in the UK and now in Germany, YouTube is yanking all music videos over new royalty rates that the Google owned company sats are unsustainable.
Local rights body GEMA's rates are 50 times higher than the UK's PRS according to GooTube's Patrick Walker speaking to German newspaper Der Spiegel, "It's unprecedented in the history of music video streaming." GEMA claims that they had offered YouTube a discounted rate, but says YouTube is not ready "to give it the transparency it wants, in return, on its required repertoire".
