International Cassette Store Day Announced, Cassette Documentary Trailer Released

Cassette-store-dayYesterday news began to spread of the announcement of International Cassette Store Day planned for September 7th. Set to be a modest version of Record Store Day, this event will mark the next stage in the development of the growing cassette subculture. In addition, last week a trailer for the crowdfunded documentary "Cassette" was released featuring such eminent figures as Henry Rollins, Mike Watt and Ian McKaye.

The documentary "Cassette" was successfully crowdfunded in January 2012. Judging from the trailer released last week, it should be a bit of fun. Look for it next year.

Yesterday news began to spread regarding the announcement of International Cassette Store Day. Based on early blog coverage, this event will be spread at least as much by the baffled as by those in the know.

This looks like the kind of thing that will build right up till September 7th but here are the key details from the official site:

Launching in London, additional events are planned for Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo.

Participating stores (physical and digital) will begin to be announced next week.

Limited edition releases from cassette labels will include such groups as At The Drive-In, The Flaming Lips and Deerhunter.

Honestly, I can't wait!
