2015 is turning out to be an important year for Soundcloud. Rightholders are pushing hard for compensation, but have been slow to sign deals; thus, thwarting a much needed effort to monetize. Into that maelstrom steps a new VP of International.
Facebook executive Sonia Flynn will be joining SoundCloud from Facebook in July, in the newly created position of Vice President International. She will be tasked with identifying and executing new market opportunities.
Flynn joined Facebook in 2009 as director for community operations, and in 2011 was appointed to Head of Office for Facebook Ireland with a portfolio that included Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
"Music is a huge passion for me and the opportunity to join the SoundCloud team combines technology with music," said Flynn. "I am hugely thankful to Facebook for the past six years, I wouldn’t have missed it for anything. "
A New Language
SoundCloud also announced today the platform’s availability in a new language, in addition to English, for the first time: the company is rolling out localization efforts in Brazil, translating the platform into Brazilian Portuguese.
