Soundcloud Pokes Spotify After Streamer Ends Free Uploads

image from images-na.ssl-images-amazon.comSoundcloud had a bit of fun at Spotify's expense after the streaming giant decided that it didn't want to be in the music distribution business, after all. Spotify launched a service that allowed artists to upload new music to the platform at no cost, but yesterday announced that it's shutting it down.

"We’re working with our distribution partners to help make this transition as simple as possible for the artists who uploaded music through the beta, " Spotify said in a statement. "At the end of this month, we’ll stop accepting any new uploads through Spotify for Artists, and artists will need to move their already released content to another provider."

Shortly after the announcement, SoundCloud poked fun at Spotify tweeting a gif of a “Sorry, we’re closed” sign which flips as the store opens for business. “Here for all creators since day one.”

In late May, SoundCloud acquired the Repost Network so that it could offer "high-performing, emerging creators " digital distribution, analytics and content protection.
