OFFICIAL: SXSW CANCELED

South by Southwest 2020 has been officially canceled, Austin city officials announced on Friday.

The decision came as an increasing number of participants, including, UMM, Sony, WMG, Apple, Netflix and Amazon, all pulled out of the annual gathering because of growing concerns over the worldwide coronavirus outbreak.

SXSW and its film, music, interactive, and education conferences were set to begin next week, running March 13-22.

“We are exploring options to reschedule the event and are working to provide a virtual SXSW online experience as soon as possible for 2020 participants, starting with SXSW EDU,” SXSW said in a statement Friday afternoon. “For our registrants, clients, and participants we will be in touch as soon as possible and will publish an FAQ.”
