If you still think Spotify is strictly an audio streaming platform, it’s time to update your marketing strategy. Spotify is expanding its video ecosystem, giving independent artists and marketers new tools to upload full-length videos, pitch for editorial consideration, and track global video hits.
Just in case you're unsure if spending time and money on longform video, Spotify released compelling data demonstrating that video isn’t just a visual extra - it directly drives audio streaming and catalog discovery.
Why Video on Spotify Matters
Audio Streaming Lift: Listeners who watch a full-length video stream that song 64% more over the following three weeks compared to audio-only listeners.
Catalog Exploration: Video viewers stream the rest of an artist’s catalog 57% more over the same period.
Super Listener Engagement: High-intent fans stream an artist’s catalog 62% more after watching a video—adding an average of 100+ minutes of extra listening time.
Monetization: Full-length music videos on Spotify are royalty-bearing and eligible for official music charts.

Data: Video Turns Casual Listeners Into Superfans
For years, artists poured budget and energy into video on social media and YouTube, hoping those views would convert into streaming revenue elsewhere. Spotify’s integrated approach connects visuals directly to the listening experience.
According to Spotify's internal data, fans who watch videos alongside audio are 40% more likely to save a track, share it, or add it to a playlist. Rather than distracting from the music, full-length visual content deepens fan retention.
| Metric | Video Viewer vs. Audio-Only |
| 3-Week Track Replays | +64% |
| 3-Week Full Catalog Streams | +57% |
| Save / Share / Playlist Rate | +40% (1.4x) |
| Super Listener Catalog Time | +62% (~1hr 40m extra) |
As an example, the cover of "Valerie (Live from The Minivan Tour)" by indie rockers The Runarounds won the band many new fans. Compared to those who only streamed audio, fans who streamed the video went on to stream 67% more of the band's catalog across 21% more distinct tracks. Super listeners streamed the artist 70% more.
3 New Spotify Video Tools
100,000 artists are part of the video beta, but if Spotify mimics previous launches, the three new features will be available to all artists soon. Artists can also join the waitlist or ask their distributor about access.
1. Direct Video Uploads
Artists upload full-length music videos, live performances, studio sessions, and cover songs directly through the Spotify for Artists dashboard. They can also deliver videos through eligible labels and distributors.

2. Editorial Video Pitching
Similar to pitching audio releases, artists can pitch unreleased or newly released videos (within 7 days of release) directly to Spotify's editorial team. Pitched videos are considered for dedicated video playlists including Best New Videos, Live Performances, and House Party.

3. Global Music Video Charts
Spotify launched its Music Video Charts Global, tracking the top 50 daily visual streams worldwide. This creates another high-visibility surface where viral visual releases can build traction.
Phase Out Short Form Clips
As part of this transition, Spotify is also phasing out new short-form Clips uploads to double down on full-length, royalty-bearing video content. Existing Clips will remain live under a consolidated Video Tab.
