Music centric social networking site imeem and EMI today launched free ad supported on-demand full song and video streaming of EMI's global digital catalog. Sony, Warner and a number of indie labels already have similar deals with imeem.
Members can upload their favorite music, video and photos for streaming, create custom playlists and slideshows, and share them with friends and fans on imeem as well as on Facebook and personal blogs.
MySpace, Friendster and others have also pledged to open their eco-systems to imeem and others. Services like iLike, Nimbit, ReverbNation and imeem are also offering services that cross platforms and are ushering in a new era in viral music marketing.
“We think imeem offers fans a great music discovery experience and personalized media features through its unique social networking environment,” said Lauren Berkowitz, Senior Vice President of Digital for EMI Music North America. “We look forward to working with imeem to develop innovative promotional opportunities and also to building new advertising and commerce revenue streams that will benefit EMI’s artists.”
“We are thrilled to work with our newest record label partner EMI Music to expand the great content available free to our users on our ad-supported service and bring imeem a significant step closer to creating the world’s largest media community," said Dalton Caldwell, founder and chief executive officer of imeem.
