Connecting Music & Tech At Decibel Festival And MoSoFEST

MosofestFrom the 9th Annual Decibel Festival in Seattle to the newly launched MoSoFEST Conference and Festival in Saskatoon, musc and tech are connecting in a variety of ways that feature live music as a focus. Previous examples of such conference and festival connections include EDMbiz, Weapons of Mass Creation & Northside Festival and others that also include business in the mix.

Decibel Festival

Decibel Festival takes place September 26 to 30 in Seattle featuring over 100 artists. Founded in 2003 Decibel Festival is in its 9th year with 23,000 attending in 2011.

What's Decibel?

"Decibel Festival is an annual Seattle festival of electronic music, performance, visual art and new media…it has booked over 800 artists ranging from experimental, to leading-edge electronic dance music and visual art. With a focus on live performance, interactive multimedia art, state-of-the-art sound and technology-based education."

MoSoFEST

MoSoFEST is a bit of a hybrid with its MoSo Conference, a daytime tech gathering June 13 through 15, and MoSo Festival, a nighttime music gathering June 14 through 16. Events take place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Festival organizer Rich Taylor draws multiple connections between music and technology for the event focusing on youth, new ideas and the use of social media by bands. However, when looking at the programming, it's difficult to see concrete expressions of the connections.
