Eagles Of Death Metal, Patti Smith Join U2 For Paris Show

image from www.celebrityaccess.comThree weeks after canceling the Paris date of their iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE tour, following the devastating terrorist attacks in the French capitol, Irish rock band U2 returned, to perform at an emotional show with guests including Patti Smith and the Eagles of Death Metal.

image from www.celebrityaccess.comAfter starting the Paris show with "The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)" U2 frontman Bono attended to the attacks, telling the audience “Tonight we are all Parisiens. Ce soir nous somme tous Parisien… If you love liberty – Paris is your hometown. Thank you for welcoming us back and allowing us to tell you a little bit about our lives at a time when your lives have been turned upside down.”

“[U2 stands] together with the families who have lost lives here in Paris, San Bernardino, in Damascus and Beirut. We stand together with the families whose children have been taken hostage by an ideology that shows none of the mercy or compassion of the god they deem to serve,” he added.

The show was also the first return to Paris for the Eagles of Death Metal, who, notoriously, were performing on stage at the Bataclan Theatre when it was attacked by radical islamists. When they joined U2 on stage, they were greeted with an enthusiastic ovation from the audience, according to Variety.

Patti Smith was on hand as well, taking the stage with U2 to perform a rendition of Gloria.

The concert was taped by HBO and will be presented on the premium channel starting on December 7th.
